Medical massage therapy is an outcome-based massage that targets specific muscle groups or other soft tissues to help relieve ailments and restore efficiency in the affected body area.
Medical massage is often used to reduce pain, help relax sore or tight muscles, relieve nerve compression, release trigger points, increase blood circulation, and reduce swelling. Furthermore, medical massage avoids the side effects and dependency issues of prescribed pain medications.
Our rates are hourly and subject to availability. They include the use of all necessary tools your practitioner may need to help achieve your treatment goals.

Thermotherapy refers to the application of moist heat for the purpose of increasing the cutaneous, intra-articular, and core temperature of soft tissue with the intention of improving the symptoms of certain conditions. These include increasing local blood flow, metabolism, edema, and tissue extensibility or decreasing pain and spasms.
Cryotherapy refers to application of cold for the purpose of decreasing the cutaneous, intra-articular, and core temperature of soft tissue with the intention of improving the symptoms of certain conditions. These include decreasing edema, pain, muscle spasms, local blood flow, metabolism, and tissue extensibility.
IASTM is a skilled intervention that includes the use of specialized tools to manipulate the skin, myofascia, muscles, and tendons for the detection and treatment of soft tissue disorders. This is achieved by various compressive stroke techniques used to effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. (12)
Deep friction massage (DFM), is a connective tissue technique commonly applied transversely to a motor point of the targeted tendon or ligament to facilitate healing by increasing the supply of oxygen transported to the injury. (6) This technique is deep and is administered to improve scar tissue mobility, decrease tension, maintain soft tissue functionality, deter scar formation, and relieve pain. It is otherwise known as cross friction massage and was developed in 1930 by the renowned English orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Cyriax.(7)
Manual trigger point therapy is a soft tissue technique that helps release tense and painful nodules, often labeled “muscle knots”, located in your muscles and myofascia. Components of manual trigger point therapy may include sustained pressure, muscle stripping, and passive stretching. (8) (13)
Myofascial release is a manual technique used to mobilize and lengthen fascia in order to release fascial restrictions. Fascia located within all underlying structures of our body including muscles, organs, nerves, and bones. These structures are encased both globally and individually to provide protection and lubrication and thus facilitate proper movement. Fascia can become restricted through injuries, stress, trauma, or poor posture.

Cupping therapy, also known as Modern Cupping, is a western based approach that utilizes plastic or silicone cups and a vacuum pump on the skin to manipulate the superficial layers of soft tissue. This modality can be used to increase blood flow, improve lymphatic movement, release fascial restrictions, or reduce swelling depending on the use and treatment goal. (9) There are various techniques of application possible including dry cupping, glide cupping, and flash cupping each used to target a different structure and physiological response.
*It is important to note that Fire cupping is not a technique performed at MediMassage, as it is out of the scope of practice of licensed massage therapists in Illinois.
Clinical aromatherapy is defined as the use of essential oils by a trained clinician for the purpose of general wellness or symptom management. It can be applied directly on the skin when properly diluted or via indirect inhalation. Aromatherapy can serve to stimulate the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin which regulate fundamental bodily functions and emotions.(11) Treatable symptoms may include nausea, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain, and mood disorders. Cancellation Policy
A 12 hour advance notice is required to reschedule or cancel an appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. Failure to do so, will result in a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the anticipated service charge.
No-shows
Anyone who either forgets or consciously chooses to forgo their appointment for whatever reason will be considered a “no-show.” No-show missed appointments will automatically result in full charge for the appointment. This amount must be paid prior to your next scheduled appointment.
Late Arrivals
If you arrive late, your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours. Depending upon how late you arrive, your therapist will then determine if there is enough time remaining to start a treatment. Regardless of the length of the treatment actually given, you will be responsible for the “full” session. Out of respect and consideration to your therapist and other patients, please plan accordingly and be on time.
Sickness
Massage nor bodywork is not appropriate care for infectious or contagious illness. Please cancel your appointment as soon as you are aware of an infectious or contagious condition. If it is within the 12-hour notice period, the cancellation fee may be waived.
Privacy Rights
You have a right to privacy under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that includes restricting disclosure of your records and claims to your health plan, including Medicare, if you pay privately for your services at the time of service. If you pay for your services at the time of service, we assume you are exercising this right to privacy we will not disclose your medical records to any third party. If you want your records disclosed to any third party in the future, you will need to obtain and sign our Authorization to Release Protected Health Information form before we will disclose your health information.
